Special Needs: While the "experts" had told us that "CJ would never walk again she has already made amazing progress and can now actually stand on her own and take a few steps. It would be important to keep up with "CJ's" exercise routine which includes knee bends, time spent steadying her when she walks and walks when she is in her K-9 Kart to improve her stamina. Exercise in a swimming pool or hydrotherapy would be a bonus. At present it would be best to manually express "CJ's" bladder on a regular basis to avoid accidents in the house. "CJ" will need to be supervised when outdoors so she does now pull herself over some terrain that would damage and tear her hind legs.
Description:
If “CJ” has a disability no one told her about it!She is a bundle of energy and thinks her K-9 Mobility Kart is her personal SCV – Squirrel Chasing Vehicle.“CJ” has a damaged disc that was never treated and had left her paralyzed in her hind legs. When we received “CJ” she was only able to drag herself around with her front paws.In the past 3 months, in addition to getting her the K-9 Kart, she has been undergoing hydrotherapy treatments and an exercise routine which have resulted in her ability to stand on her own and even take a few wobbly steps. Her progress has been truly amazing! No one know if “CJ” will ever walk normally on her own again, but if there is any dog that has the will and that Beagle determination it is this sweet girl.
There is no doubt that “CJ” can be a handful, especially when she spies a squirrel, duck, bird, cat, etc.She jumps into hunting mode and starts the chase with that wonderful Beagle baying as she runs along. “CJ” has a veracious appetite and her food must be portion controlled so he does not get overweight. “CJ” is not incontinent and does not soil her crate, however, if you are not careful when you lift her she will express her urine. We have been using this to our advantage and manually expressing her urine a few times during the day. This prevents her from having accidents in the house if she gets too excited.Pooping on her own has been difficult for “CJ” because she was not able to get herself into the squatting position. As a result, when she had to go, she would pull herself around with her front legs and leave a little trail of poop behind.I believe that will change as her ability to stand improves and I have seen her attempting to get herself into the squatting position.Because of all the attention she gets she is a little spoiled so she will need some obedience training.
“CJ” is a sweetheart who loves to be touched and to have lots of people around her.“CJ” will need someone with a big heart and lots of patience to push her to her full potential, is that you?
