Description: Earnie was rescued with his friend Bert. Both were waiting patiently at the pound while the staff tried very hard to find them rescue. They kept these two guys way past their alloted time because they are so sweet!
If there is a definition of a happy dog Ernie’s face would be next to it. I have had the pleasure of fostering Ernie for the last two weeks, and I can tell you he is eager to please and a fast learner. For a dog who has never lived in a house, he is a model house guest. I have heard him bark once in the two weeks he has been with me. He is getting used to being in the house, and after his first day has not had an accident. He goes in his crate when needed, and does not make a sound. He is crated when no one is home, but allowed free access to the house while we are home, and has access to the backyard through the patio. He comes running when you whistle, and is learning the pleasure of dog toys, but still is unsure of those with squeakers. When you sit down he comes running to your side in hopes you will pet him, and is so very appreciative when you do. In the morning after he does his business he comes running back in and does his “chicken jerky dance” standing on his hind legs dancing around the pantry door waiting for you to get his treat of chicken jerky. He is playful with both his beagle sister, and his bigger brother, (a lab/pit mix). We have never seen a foster who is so happy all the time, his tail just wags and wags, and he prances around as if he know his life is just going to get better and better!!
Unfortunatley shortly after being pulled from the shelter Ernie started to have about one seizure a week. It is not uncommon for beagles to have epilepsy. The seizuers are short and self-limited but he has been started on a very inexpensive seizure medication called phenobarbital. During his medical evaluation for the seizures he was found to have a slow thyroid and has also been place on a very inexpensive thyroid medication as well.
