IN HONOR OF Mattie and Sally...

Dear Beagle Rescue,
We wanted to acknowledge that July 17th marks one full year since you enabled us to bring Mattie into our home and to express our ongoing gratitude for that.  She is doing very well and we are so happy to have her e a member of our family.
The other big news is that Mattie now has a little sister named Sally.  Joy recently completed a summer camp week at the Humane Society and she told us that they had a young beagle we just had to go see.  Little Sally immediately so warmed up to us that we had to give her a home and Mattie a companion.
Sally has been with us for two weeks now, and the dogs are devoted to one another.  Mattie acts like getting a second dog is just what she hoped we would do for her.  Enclosed is a recent photo showing Sally (on the left) and Mattie together.
We hope you all are doing well up there, and we also want to offer a small token of additional support for your efforts with the enclosed donation.
Thanks again for everything you are doing!

IN HONOR OF LUCI

I adopted Luci in April of 2003 at age 4.  She quickly took over the house, claiming a corner of the bed where she can look out the front window.  Her favorite pastimes are hunting lizards in the back yard and chasing tennis balls around the house.  Luci filled my heart with joy after I lost my little dog, Spirit, a beagle-mix who shared my life for 12 years.  Luci never knew Spirit, and she'll never know how often that she reminds me of my old friend.  Still, she knows that she is very much loved and she doesn't hesitate to demand belly rubs.

IN HONOR OF BUDDY ...

Buddy was the first beagle I fostered from the rescue. I had adopted two beagles the previous year, a three year old female and her eight month old puppy. They are a true joy to have and were enjoying their spoiled lifestyle when Buddy came to live with us.  Buddy was absolutely terrified when I first meet him; I've never seen a dog more afraid in my life. On the ride home I couldn't get him to sit still for a minute and when we got home, he hid under a table for two days. It took a lot of coaxing and sweet talking to get him to not run away from people.
Buddy had been turned into the rescue because he had a very destructive chewing problem that caused his previous owners a great deal of expense. Before I managed to get him to trust people, he chewed up several things here, too, including the dog's favorite spot -- an old loveseat.  Instead of punishing him for being destructive, I would gave him extra love and realized once he felt safe, it would stop. It took about four months but he did indeed stop completely.

Buddy is now much more like a typical beagle, much more outgoing and friendly. He's still not as fearless as my two girl beagles, but he is getting closer. In the year and a half I've had him he has only barked once, while playing with a foster dog. I always laugh when people tell me beagles are known for how much they bark. I'm trying to get Buddy to bark more.
Most of my days start with Buddy jumping up in my bed and wanting to play, it's a great way to start the day.
